Skywatch Friday - Buddha under the sky!

Mihintale.

The place is as charming as the name.

Cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.

This is the place where King Devanamapiyatissa became a Buddhist under the tutelage of Buddhist missionary Mahinda.

The place is located in a wooded countryside. Spread over large area which also has many religious uins,

What was interesting was the statue of Buddha in a seated position. Buddhism in Sri Lanka is celebrated in simple terms. Buddha here is always in white and considered benevolent. If we are not wrong, except for Dambulla, we did not see any painted Buddha statue in Sri Lanka.

This one was special. When you look down from the stupa, the statue looks like floating among the clouds. Take a look. Click on the picture to see it in original size.

If you are planning a trip in Sri Lanka, do include this charming place.
