Monday Medley - Jog falls is spectacular, Go Now!

Monday Medley - A potpourri of interesting articles, posts from fellow bloggers which we liked, books we loved, interesting images of fellow travelers or images from our own portfolio. We hope it will be a good start to the week ahead......

Poorna has a picture of Jog falls in full glow. It was taken by him when he had gone decades ago much before we got married. It is a beautiful picture shot from Bombay guest house. But, every time we have been to Jog, we have come back disappointed.

We knew that the gates of Linganamakki dam were opened on Saturday - very few times in the last two decades it has happened - and Jog falls would be spectacular.

We couldn't go and see the wonder this week.

Thankfully, good friend Shivkumar Shyamsunder was there this Sunday ( yesterday) and captured the spectacle in his camera. And what a treat!!

Jog falls is mind-blowingly beautiful when it is in full flow. Here is a rare sight. Just look at these pictures. They are just mesmerising!

Click on the pictures to see them in original size.

A Panoramic shot!
It is still raining in Malnad. This spectacle may be there for another week. If everything goes as per plan, we should be there this week.

Don't miss the breathtakingly beautiful sight. Go now.

Getting there - Jog falls is at a distance of  400 KMs from Bangalore in South India. The road condition is very good.

Thank you! You can do Jog as a Day trip if you don't mind driving like us:-). else, this can be a comfortable weekend trip. The route is Bangalore - Shimoga - Sagar - Jogfalls. There is a home stay close to Jog named "Mathuga" but will be full during this time. The better option is to stay in Sagar which has good hotels.

Amazing waterfall. It is both beautiful and frightening at the same time. And very nice pictures you have there.

When exactly were these pictures taken?

I had been to the falls a few weeks ago. What I saw was nothing compared to these pictures that you have here!

Hi Poorna,

Thanks for the tips, we went to Jog last weekend and it is very good.
Stayed at Mattuga, excellent homely food :-)

The weather was just too good, little drizzling near Jog. Water level was also pretty good

Hi Rahul,

This was taken on the same day the post was published 07 Sep. This was clicked by a friend who was lucky to be at Jog falls when gates of Dam were opened which happens possibly one day in a year when it is full. We went a week after that. We did not find the falls at its glorious best when gates get opened but still it was lovely.
